Gentle Care For The Most Tender Postpartum Days

The days after birth can be intensely physical. Your body is recovering, adjusting and healing while almost all of your attention is suddenly focused on caring for someone else.

Healing Womb Postpartum Sitz & Herbal Bath Soak, available at Fed is Best, creates a simple ritual for caring for your own body during those early postpartum days.

The botanical blend combines yarrow, witch hazel, calendula, lavender, shepherd’s purse and plantain with magnesium sulphate and Kalahari salt. Use it to prepare a sitz bath, full-body soak, peri rinse or cooling postpartum pads.

One Botanical Blend, Four Ways To Use It

Healing Womb can be adapted according to what feels most comfortable during your postpartum recovery.

  • Sitz bath: For a gentle, targeted postpartum soak.
  • Full bath: For whole-body relaxation and a moment to rest.
  • Peri rinse: Prepare a cooled herbal infusion for your peri bottle.
  • Cooling pads: Use a prepared infusion to make postpartum padsicles ahead of time.

Yarrow

Yarrow has a long history of traditional use in herbal skin and postpartum preparations. Its astringent properties make it a familiar ingredient in botanical blends intended for external postpartum care.

Witch Hazel

Witch hazel is widely used externally for its cooling and astringent properties. It is a particularly familiar ingredient in postpartum products created for tender or swollen-feeling skin and haemorrhoid care.

Calendula

Calendula is one of the best-known botanicals in gentle skincare. It has a long history of topical use and is commonly included in products designed to soothe and condition delicate or irritated skin.

Lavender

Lavender brings its familiar botanical aroma to the blend and has a long history of traditional use in bathing and body-care preparations.

Its calming scent also adds to the ritual of slowing down and taking a few minutes to care for yourself.

Shepherd’s Purse

Shepherd’s purse has traditionally been used in women’s herbal practices, including postpartum preparations. In Healing Womb, it forms part of the botanical blend intended for external use during the postpartum period.

Plantain

Plantain has a long history of topical use in traditional herbal skincare, particularly in preparations for delicate and irritated skin.

It complements calendula, yarrow and witch hazel in this postpartum bathing blend.

Magnesium Sulphate

Magnesium sulphate adds a familiar mineral-soak element to Healing Womb. This makes the blend suitable for more than targeted perineal care – it can also be prepared as a warm full-body bath when appropriate during your postpartum recovery.

Kalahari Salt

Kalahari salt completes the mineral and botanical blend, creating a comforting addition to postpartum bathing and body-care rituals.

How To Use As A Sitz Bath

Add 3–4 tablespoons to a sitz bath basin filled with comfortably warm water.

Soak for 10–15 minutes, once or twice daily as appropriate for your postpartum recovery.

One 500g bag provides approximately 12–15 sitz soaks.

How To Use As A Full Bath Soak

Add ½ cup to a warm bath and soak for approximately 15–20 minutes.

One 500g bag provides approximately 4–5 full baths.

After birth, follow your maternity care provider’s advice about when it is appropriate to begin soaking in a bath, particularly after a caesarean birth or if you have wounds or stitches.

How To Prepare A Peri Rinse

  1. Add 2–3 tablespoons of the blend to one cup of boiling water.
  2. Allow it to steep for approximately 10 minutes.
  3. Strain thoroughly to remove the botanical material.
  4. Allow the infusion to cool to a comfortable temperature.
  5. Pour the strained infusion into a clean peri bottle.
  6. Use externally as part of your postpartum hygiene routine.

One 500g bag provides approximately 16–20 peri rinses when prepared according to the suggested directions.

How To Make Cooling Postpartum Pads

  1. Add 3–4 tablespoons of the blend to two cups of boiling water.
  2. Steep for approximately 10 minutes.
  3. Strain thoroughly and allow the infusion to cool completely.
  4. Use the cooled infusion to prepare maternity pads for freezing.

One prepared batch can make approximately 8–10 cooling pads, depending on how much infusion is used for each pad.

If you would like them ready for the early postpartum period, they can be prepared ahead of your due date and stored appropriately until needed.

Important Postpartum Care

For external use only.

Postpartum wounds, tears, stitches and caesarean incisions require appropriate medical care. If you have stitches, an unhealed caesarean incision or have been given specific wound-care instructions, check with your maternity care provider before using bath soaks or herbal preparations on the area.

Do not apply the blend directly to an open wound. Stop use if irritation occurs.

Seek medical advice if you develop increasing pain, redness, swelling, unusual discharge, fever, heavy bleeding or other symptoms that concern you during postpartum recovery.

Keep out of reach of children.

A Ritual Of Tending To The Mother

Healing Womb turns a practical part of postpartum care into an opportunity to slow down and tend to your own body.

Whether you prepare a short sitz bath, a warm full-body soak, a peri rinse or cooling pads for those first tender days, this versatile botanical blend gives you several simple ways to incorporate a little more care into postpartum recovery.
